Back pain is probably the number one complaint that I treat in my clinic.
The vast majority of the times the pain is coming from a select number of muscles that have tightened up, weakened and eventually cause pain in the lower back.
It's quite simple really. The reason so many people suffer back pain is because we spend long periods of the day sitting. This causes the hamstrings and hip flexors to shorten and the gluteals(bum muscles) to tighten. The shortening and tightening of these muscle groups impairs proper function and more often than not, the muscles in the back have to take up the slack and work harder. Even performing a simple task as bending over to pick up something light can cause the lower back to strain.
At Ciarán Foy Personal Training we combine Orthopaedic Sports Massage with Neuromuscular Therapy techniques to help restore normal length and function to muscles that have become short, thight and weak over time. We also provide strength programmes that help rehabilitate injured tissues and minimise the risk of future injuries.
